Construction Safety Update: Southeast Corner of Denver City Park

Some news from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science:

Please stay alert, use caution, and follow signs that note temporary park closures and detours for vehicle/pedestrian/cycling traffic in the southeast corner of Denver City Park. This active construction zone is off-limits to ensure the safety of neighbors, park users, and Museum visitors. Crews are using heavy machinery to excavate 12 million gallons of dirt for construction of the Education and Collections Facility at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Semi-trucks are entering/exiting the park from 17^th Avenue to assist with the removal of this dirt.

About the Education and Collections Facility at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

The Museum is adding 126,000 square feet and five levels of discovery to its south side, providing even more space to engage, delight, and spark your imagination. The new addition, supported in part by the Better Denver Bond and scheduled for completion in 2014, will feature a dedicated, interactive science center for ages 3-5, additional space for world-class travelling exhibitions and engaging science programs, a state-of-the-art preservation and research facility for more than 1.4 million artifacts and specimens, and more. Upcoming road closures – West City Park June 24-26

Please be aware and inform others that Denver Public Works is planning to close the entire intersection at East 18^th Avenue & York Street this weekend for re-paving. The intersection will close at 8:30 am Friday 24^th June and re-open at 8 pm Sunday 26^th June.

Public Works has provided the following street closing and detour information:

Location of work: Intersection of York and Josephine Streets at E 18th Avenue.

Purpose: Remove and replace asphalt roadway for entire intersection.

Traffic impact: Weekend closure with full detour routes.

“Road Closed” signs at the following locations:

Westbound E 17th Ave at City Park Esplanade. Local traffic will be allowed to go west of Colorado Blvd. Through traffic will be told to use Colorado, south to Colfax or north to E 23rd Avenue.

Northbound Josephine Street at E 17th Avenue. Local traffic will be allowed to go north of Colfax to E 17th Ave. Through traffic will be told to use Colfax, west to Downing or east to Colorado.

Southbound York Street at E 20th Avenue. Local traffic will be allowed to go south of E 23rd Ave to E 20th Avenue. Through traffic will be told to use E 23rd Ave, east to Colorado, or E 20th Ave, west to Downing.

East bound 17^th Avenue will remain open.

Begin: 8:30 am on Friday, June 24th

End: 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 26^th

Tai Chi in the Park starts now!

TUESDAYS: “17th Annual Sunrise Tai Chi and Fitness Walks,” free Tai Chi at 7:00 am followed by a fitness walk around the lake at 7:45 am. For all ages., west side of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, City Park. Through August. The Tai Chi Project partners with Denver Parks and Rec, Colorado Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness, and The President’s Council for Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.

There was a recent announcement in Life on Capitol Hill about Story Hour in the park. We expect these to start in July, not June as in the announcement.

SATURDAYS: “Story Hour in City Park,” free story hour with celebrity readers for kids three to seven, 10 am outside the Bible House, 21st & York on the west side of City Park. Cookies & lemonade.

County Fair at City Park this Friday!

City Park Alliance would like to officially invite you to the 2011 County Fair at City Park & District 8 Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social Honoring Carla Madison. This is a fun (and free!) event that will have things to do for people of all ages. Events include free ice cream, entertainment provided by the Denver Municipal Band (and the electric fountain should be on as well!), face painters and a hat decorating station, as well as information booths to learn about local businesses, organizations and non-profits. This event promises to be a great time, so please join us!
